Before disassembling the PS2 unit be sure to have a clean, well-lit work area with storage containers for loose parts

. Once the base is removed, a metal plate remains covering the main board. Remove the (4) securing screws. Now gently lift the steel plate from the system and set aside.

. CAUTION: Before handling the circuit board touch a piece of grounded metal to remove any static charge from your body. These components are static sensitive. .

The board is now ready to be soldered. To start you should have a fine tip, low temperature soldering iron (15 watt is ideal). Using the solder provided (full kit versions of the mod), quickly touch the iron and the solder onto the pad. Hold only for a second. When the iron tip is removed you should have a tiny ball of solder bonded to the pad on the board. Place the wire onto the pre-soldered contact and touch it with the soldering iron. The solder should flow and the wire will bond to the pad. To complete the wiring, attach the other remaining wires to the indicated soldering pads. CAUTION: Due to the heat involved in soldering you must only hold the tip on the work long enough to get the solder to flow. If too much heat is applied to the work it may damage the chip, lift the PCB trace or burn the insulation back on the wire. If the insulation for the MOD chip's wires burns back you must trim and re-solder. Too much insulation removed could result in the exposed copper touching other traces on the board. This is hazardous to the PS2 unit. .

Don't worry - it looks much worse than it is :) This installation took about 20 minutes. The only points that you should take a bit of care are 5,6 and 7. Point number 2 is a little tricky. We suggest using a razor blade to scratch away at the surface to give a good contact to the track - you don't need to scratch too much - i.e. don't go mad :) the rest are straight forward points. The picture below is of the SCPH 15000 (GH-003) board (The SCPH 10000 is exactly the same except a lighter green).

Once all of the wires are attached, visually inspect the board to ensure that no exposed copper is touching any adjacent traces. You can now lay the MOD chip on the board in a clear area where it will not be damaged.

Once you are pleased with the work, follow the above steps in reverse order to reassemble the PlayStation.

Reconnect the unit to your power source and video outputs. Power up the PS2. Place the UTILITY disc provided with the PS2 is the tray and allow the system to boot. The CD tray will eject automatically, if not press the reset button and try again. If the unit is turned on and the boot screen does appear within a few seconds, or the CD door does not eject automatically shut the unit off immediately. Disassemble the PS2 and start from the beginning to try and find the fault.

Play PS2 backups (11 & 8 Wire Mod)

1) First, create an ISO file image (better using CDRWIN) of the game and apply the related patch (See our downloads section)

2) Turn on the machine and place the Utility Disc that was provided with your PS2 into the tray and power up.

3) Wait until the Playstation 2 logo appears on the screen and press RESET.

4) The PS2 will now boot and the tray should eject automatically.

5) The disc is still spinning so be careful. We recommend using a CD Shield to protect your disc from scratches.

6) Replace the utility disc with your backup copy - but be quick you have about 3 seconds. (5 seconds on the new 8-wire mod)

7) Your game will now load!!
